The song 'akaasa vedhilo' is rendered by Bhanumathi and Ghantasala, and later N.T.Rama Rao and Bhanumathi performed for it on screen. In ancient times when the lover and his loved-one are separated by distance, our poets create cloud-envoys to carry communications between them.  Clouds have been playing the role of envoys right from the days of the classic poem Meghasandesam composed by Kalidasa.  The longing for the company of the loved-one makes ones heart heavy with sorrow. All the deep feelings—empathy, comfort, and consequent serenity—the lovelorn one receives from the message of a cloud-envoy cannot be described in words. Only those people who go through such experience can understand the intensity of such emotions.  Devulapalli is the right person to express such deep feelings and emotions of the soul in a style that further heightens them in his poetry. Just think of the meaning of ‘maavoori gudipaina masali vasthunnava’ and ‘naakanneeru gundelo daachukuni vaanajalluga kurisipova’.  Repeat this act for a couple of times. You are certain to feel the intensity of these words in your heart. Out of all the songs of Malleeswari, this song tuned in ‘bheemplaas’ raaga, is my special favorite.  Saluru Rajeswara Rao used to appear in TV programs singing this song, and he used to play the harmonium himself while singing! Singer S.P.Balasubramanyam normally chooses this song to demonstrate the singing style of Rajeswara Rao through mimicry.
